City of Austin Charles Purma has lead open government and web and software development initiatives for the City of Austin, TX for over eleven years. Most recently, his focus is turning to spanning the boundaries between the public, private, and community sectors to deliver upon the promises of open data and smart city programs. He also manages a team focused on collaboration, agile project management, and innovation services. Prior to his service at the City of Austin, Charles was a business development director at a marketing and design firm where he gained a deep appreciation for creative problem solving and effective visual communication. After finishing his undergraduate degree at Kansas State University, he headed west to get his master’s degree in Political Science at the University of California, Santa Barbara.
